Kirk Herbstreit will be calling the College Football Playoff National Championship Game with Chris Fowler on ESPN on Jan. 10. And Georgia fans certainly hope their team will be in Indianapolis playing for its first national championship since 1980.

Tennessee, Georgia’s opponent on Saturday, looks to be the last serious threat to the Bulldogs’ perfect record before Kirby Smart’s squad closes the regular season against FCS Charleston Southern and Georgia Tech. Then, it’s on to Atlanta for the SEC Championship.

Of course, the Dawgs’ elite defense has led the way for the entire season. But it goes much deeper than talent, Kirk Herbstreit argued on “The Paul Finebaum Show” on Wednesday afternoon.

“Georgia is not just a talented team that Kirby and his staff have gone out and recruited great players. Please remember this: Georgia is Georgia this year because of guys like Nakobe Dean,” Herbstreit said. “The hardest working players on the Georgia roster are the best players. Just like Alabama last year…they couldn’t get enough of practice. They couldn’t get enough of film work. They couldn’t get enough of 7-on-7 with no coaches around. That’s when you have an elite team. Georgia has that this year, and you can’t coach that.

“So remember that about Georgia in 2021. It’s not just elite talent. They have that. But they have elite intangibles.”
