The Georgia defense shined in Week 1, holding the Clemson offense to just 3 points while scoring a touchdown of its own on a pick-6.
The success of the Bulldogs’ defense is often attributed to Kirby Smart, due to his background as a defensive assistant before getting a head coaching job. Kirk Herbstreit, however, knows that Dan Lanning deserves credit for Saturday’s performance in Charlotte.
Herbstreit named the Georgia defensive coordinator as his top-performing coach of Week 1. Lanning tops a list that includes head coaches Chip Kelly, Will Healy and Steve Sarkisian along with three other defensive coordinators.
