Can anyone dethrone the Georgia Bulldogs?

Kirk Herbstreit and Pat McAfee have differing opinions on the matter. Georgia, after all, is undefeated on the season and has looked dominant on their way to a No. 1 ranking heading into the College Football Playoff. The Bulldogs are wins over Ohio State and very likely Michigan (perhaps TCU) from repeating as national champions.

But McAfee thinks Michigan has what it takes to compete with the Bulldogs for the title. During the broadcast of the Las Vegas Bowl between Florida and Oregon State, he made his case for the Wolverines to give No. 1 a run for its money.

“If you watched what Michigan did to Ohio State, they bullied them,” McAfee said during the broadcast. “That’s the type of team you’re going to have to play if you want to beat Georgia… They got an experienced quarterback who has the confidence and composure to do it all. I think Michigan has enough firepower and meat to keep up with Georgia.”

Herbstreit disagrees. He’s not quite convinced his alma mater doesn’t have the talent to be able to pull off the Peach Bowl upset.

“I think Ohio State’s a wildcard just because of the ability they have and before that Michigan game, everyone was talking about them as a team to look out for,” Herbstreit said. “They still have a lot of talent but where will their mindset be after that Michigan game going into that will be the thing to watch.”

Are either of these teams on the same level as No. 1?
