Ladd McConkey has been named a finalist for a prestigious award.

The Georgia wide receiver was named among 3 finalists for the Wuerffel Trophy, which is given to the college football player “who best combines exemplary community service with athletic and academic achievement.”

The other finalists are Michigan running back Blake Corum and Notre Dame linebacker JD Bertrand.

To qualify for the award, a player must be first team at an FBS school, and All-Conference and All-American statuses may receive additional weight. A GPA of 3.0 is also preferred, and additional weight may be given based on the college and major. McConkey is a finance major at Georgia.

The award, which began in 2005, has some elite company in its list of winners, including Tim Tebow, who won in 2008. Last year, Florida State offensive lineman Dillan Gibbons won the award.

McConkey has had a productive season at Georgia with 418 yards and 2 touchdowns recorded while dealing with some injuries. McConkey is looking for a big game on Saturday as Georgia takes on Alabama in the SEC Championship.
