Matthew Stafford offers praise to fellow ex-Georgia star D'Andre Swift as they prepare for Lions' season
Though NFL teams are still waiting for official activities to start amid the COVID-19 pandemic, Detroit Lions QB Matthew Stafford and RB D’Andre Swift — both former Georgia stars — have been able to get a few workouts in together in the Atlanta area.
It’s safe to say the former Bulldogs are getting along well, as Stafford shared some early thoughts on Swift this week.
In an interview with DetroitLions.com, Stafford said Swift’s versatility will be an exciting part of the Lions’ offense moving forward:
“As a player goes, he’s a back that can kind of do it all,” Stafford said of Swift. “I think he does a good job out of the backfield catching the ball and making big plays. They handed it to him a bunch and he was doing a great job running with it.”
Also important is the fact that Stafford can now watch Georgia games with Swift. He’ll need the support, as the Lions also have Auburn’s Kerryon Johnson and Alabama’s Bo Scarbrough in their running back room.
Surely there will be some fun bets on the Auburn-Georgia and Georgia-Alabama games if they are able to be played as scheduled this fall. We’ll find out soon enough!
Matt Stafford has zero credibility. I like him, but he is not a winner.
He leads or is close to leading all active QBs the NFL in 4th quarter comebacks He either throws the game winning TD or game losing pick. But since they have not had a reliable RB his whole career, he had to carry the offense with his gunslinger of an arm.
Whatever Bamabread!
By the way, you do remember the game with Stafford throwing the WINNING TD to Mikey Henderson in Tuscaloosa in 2007? The kid has always been a winner his entire life.
I think an 11 year starter has plenty of credibility. I’m sure it’s fair to blame the QB for a team not being a winner. Coaches & front offices have nothing to do with the team winning. It’s all the QBs fault. I wonder if a loser like Stafford could have led the 2001 Ravens to a Super Bowl win? I mean if the worst QB to ever win a SB could than maybe it had something to do with the team.
KJ and BS are both some big time bruisers at rb. Swift will be a good change of pace. The lions front office loves them some SEC running backs.
Agreed. I think Swift will be used as a Swiss Army Knife in Detroit. Someone who will be on the field more than the other two backs, but who might not run it as much as them.
