Mike Bobo has had a bit of a career resurgence in his return to Georgia, first as an analyst, and now as the offensive coordinator after Todd Monken left for the Baltimore Ravens.

Bobo met with reporters on Thursday and said after he parted ways at Auburn, he had other opportunities.

“I wanted to go somewhere where I could continue learning as a coach … Those guys [on the 2022 Georgia staff] took me in, and it was very, very positive,” Bobo said.

Since his first stint as OC at Georgia, Bobo has been a head coach at Colorado State, and then the offensive coordinator at South Carolina and Auburn. Bobo said all of that experience makes him a better assistant, because he knows when to voice his opinion.

While the play-caller will change this season, Bobo said terminology on offense will stay the same from last season. But there’s no doubt that star tight end Brock Bowers will be part of his game plan, and Bowers is not a guy that needs to be motivated.

“As a play caller, it’s about players not plays,” he said. “If a player has a unique ability to make plays, we’ve got to design plays as a staff to get him touches.”

About the quarterbacks, Bobo said he’s been pleased with all 3, and while they’ve been up and down, each has responded well. Bobo is looking forward to seeing how they respond in Saturday’s first scrimmage.
