Tuesday was a great day for Kirby Smart and his Bulldog program as the nation’s top-ranked running back prospect Zamir White announced his commitment to Georgia.
White made his decision by picking up a Georgia hat during a ceremony held at his Scotland County high school in Laurinburg, North Carolina. White declined to make any immediate comments following his commitment.
Just how good of a running back prospect is White? In three years of high school football, White has rushed for over 5,000 yards and 85 touchdowns. He’s also been compared favorably to another North Carolina native that all Georgia fans know well — Todd Gurley. Sounds like the perfect solution to replacing Nick Chubb in the lineup in 2018, as it was ironically Chubb who supplanted Gurley in the UGA backfield in 2014.
Likely anticipating news of this commitment, Georgia recently released a new ‘Running Back U’ hype video. White was also listed on our 10 SEC recruits to know for 2018 list published last signing day.
The 6-foot-1, 220-pound North Carolina native ranks as a five-star prospect, the No. 1 running back and the No. 6 overall recruit in the nation according to 247Sports Composite Rankings. The 2018 U.S. Army All-American chose Georgia over Alabama, Clemson, North Carolina, and Ohio State.
White’s high school highlight reel shows off his unique blend of size and speed that’s reminiscent of Bo Jackson in Tecmo Bowl. It’s apparently impossible to tackle him with only one defender.
Following White’s commitment, Georgia now has seven total pledges in the 2018 recruiting class. White is the first five-star prospect to commit to the class but Kirby Smart and the Dawgs have their sights set on a few more with plenty of time to recruit them before the first signing day arrives in December.
White later tweeted out a statement explaining his decision:
