When the Oklahoma Sooners and Georgia Bulldogs square off at the Rose Bowl in a College Football Playoff semifinal, it’ll be a matchup of one of the nation’s top offenses vs. one of the country’s best defenses.

The Sooners boast the No. 4 scoring offense in the FBS and the Bulldogs have the No. 3 scoring defense, so something will have to give in Pasadena on New Year’s Day.

Oklahoma QB Baker Mayfield, who won this year’s Heisman Trophy, said he and the Sooners won’t be taking the Bulldogs lightly (via 247Sports):

“You can’t compare them to anybody,” Mayfield said. “They’re in a league of their own. There’s a reason they’re in the playoffs. There’s a reason they follow behind that defense. You can’t compare them to people because they’re so talented and they play so well together. To say they’re like anybody else would be downplaying how good they are.”

The Oklahoma offense vs. Georgia defense matchup will be a key to the game, certainly, but it’ll also be important for Oklahoma’s defense to step up to stop the Bulldogs’ rushing attack.

Georgia’s offense can really take a big step forward against the Sooners’ mediocre defense, and if it does, the Bulldogs may be the ones advancing to the national championship game when all is said and done.
