Paul Finebaum has seen a dominant Georgia squad roll into the SEC Championship Game matchup against Alabama. While the Bulldogs played a close rivalry game against Georgia Tech in Week 13, Kirby Smart’s team is riding an unprecedented winning streak and back-to-back national titles.

During Sunday’s broadcast of ESPN’s SportsCenter, Finebaum was asked about the SEC title game and a potential loss to the Crimson Tide. While the Bulldogs will be favored, Nick Saban’s team has improved throughout the year behind Jalen Milroe leading the offense.

When it comes to Georgia, Finebaum still believes a loss to Alabama would leave the Bulldogs as one of the four best teams in the country, provided it is a close game in Atlanta. A blowout changes the conversation, but a close game even in a loss should “definitely” put the Bulldogs in per Finebaum.

“One caveat: if it’s a close game. If it’s a blowout, then that’s a different conversation,” said Finebaum. “If it’s a close game, I think Georgia should definitely be in, and for all the reasons that we’ve laid out here.”

Finebaum used Florida State for the head-to-head comparison to Georgia, and he believes the résumé for the Bulldogs would still trump the Seminoles with a 12-1 record:

“And in the head-to-head with Florida State, there’s just no match. Florida State is a good team, but their best win came early in the season against a 3-loss LSU team and later against a 4-loss Clemson team,” Finebaum claimed. “Florida State needed to dominate last night in Gainesville and they barely won the game… I don’t want to hear all the analytics. To me, Georgia would definitely be a better team than FSU.”
