The Georgia quarterback race took another twist on Saturday as D’Wan Mathis got the majority of snaps with the first-team offense.

However, coach Kirby Smart told those assembled the job is by no means settled. Carson Beck showed off his impressive quarterbacking skills, too, according to the onlookers, Mike Griffith of the AJC reported. JT Daniels also got work in the scrimmage as Georgia ramps up preparations for the season opener at Arkansas.

Smart did not talk with the media after the Bulldogs’ third scrimmage of the preseason.

Freshman WR Jermaine Burton was the most impressive player because of his catches and punt return abilities.

Griffith reported that WR Matt Landers had some impressive moments, too, as Todd Monken’s offense took on a controlled, efficient look. Tailbacks James Cook and Zamir White also both appeared to excel in the offense.

On defense, LBs Nolan Smith and Jermaine Johnson stood out and S Lewis Cine showed impressive closing speed.

True freshman cornerback Jalen Kimber had a Pick-6, and S Richard LeCounte also had an interception.

The offensive line had a predictable look as it has had all preseason, with Jamaree Salyer at left tackle, Justin Shaffer at left guard, Trey Hill at center, Ben Cleveland at right guard and Owen Condon at right tackle.
