Rams RB coach details plans for former Georgia star Todd Gurley in Super Bowl LIII

Former Georgia RB Todd Gurley started out the season on a tear for the Los Angeles Rams. However, this postseason, he’s been ineffective at times as more and more carries have been going to C.J. Anderson.
Ahead of the Super Bowl on Sunday, though, many want to know if Gurley will be ready for a full workload.
This week, Rams RB coach Skip Peete joined the RapSheet and Friends podcast and said Gurley likely would see a reduced workload against the New England Patriots (via NFL.com):
“We said, ‘Going forward, we got to make sure you’re fresh, you’re healthy,” Peete said on the RapSheet and Friends podcast this week. “The workload that you had prior to you sitting out, probably can’t go that route right now. He understood that. He played. It’s just his touches weren’t what they had normally been.”
Peete said Gurley would still see plenty of action, just not the every-down load he had been getting to start the season:
“If you look at a guy who hasn’t really practiced in two or three weeks, then all of the sudden has to go out there and play (in the playoffs), the cardio isn’t where it needs to be to play 60 or 70 plays,” Peete said. “And that’s what he had been doing before he sat out. You need to kind of work him back where you put him in situations where it makes sense. That happened in the Dallas game, and I thought he did some things in the last game.”
Of course, this all has to be taken with a grain of salt, as Peete could just be using gamesmanship to try to conceal the Rams’ real plans for the star running back.
We’ll find out soon if Gurley is ready to make a big impact, though, and if he gets going early, the Rams may opt to keep feeding him the ball.
