Here are some quick thoughts on Georgia’s 34-0 win at Missouri.

What it means: Georgia’s big win over Missouri puts the Bulldogs in the driver’s seat in the SEC East title race. Even without Gurley, Georgia didn’t miss a beat. A big day from the defense shut down Maty Mauk and the Missouri offense, sparking the Bulldogs’ blowout win. As much as UGA misses Todd Gurley, his absence will be greatly minimized if Georgia’s defense can be as disruptive as they were against Missouri for the rest of the season.

What I liked: Georgia’s pass rush. The Bulldogs defense is predicated on the blitz and the front seven of Georgia’s defense came to play today. Mauk was uncomfortable all game, even when he had time in the pocket. Thanks to the constant pressure, Mauk threw four interceptions along with a number of inaccurate balls downfield. The ‘Dawgs’ secondary may be vulnerable to the pass, but as long as guys like Jordan Jenkins, Leonard Floyd and others are terrorizing opposing backfields, it won’t matter too much.

What I didn’t like: There wasn’t much not to like out of this performance from Georgia. The defense played outstanding, Hutson Mason made some big time throws and Nick Chubb rose to the challenge of filling in at starting running back during Gurley’s absence.

Who’s the man: Quincy Mauger. The Georgia defensive back hauled in two interceptions on the day, sparking an impressive defensive performance for UGA.

Key play: Quincy Mauger’s second INT. On Missouri’s first drive of the second half, the Tigers offense was finally moving the ball. Russell Hansbrough broke off an 8-yard run before a 24-yard pass to wide receiver Jimmie Hunt at UGA’s 42-yard line. Down 20-0, a Missouri touchdown to open up the second half would have changed the complexion of the entire game. Instead, a dropped ball by Jimmie Hunt on the third play of the drive fell right into Mauger’s hands for Georgia’s third interception of the day.

What’s next: Georgia is on the road again next weekend as they travel to Little Rock, Ark. to take on the Arkansas Razorbacks at War Memorial Stadium.
