OFFENSE: A+

If you are a UGA fan, I’m not sure you could have pictured a better offensive performance out of the Bulldogs. Hutson Mason had arguably his best game at starting quarterback, throwing for 174 yards and four touchdowns. He only attempted 16 passes, but completed 13 of them and didn’t turn the ball over once. Nick Chubb had some help in the backfield today with the return of Sony Michel. The two combined for 254 rushing yards and two touchdowns as UK struggled to stop either running back at all this afternoon.

Georgia’s 63 points is the second-most of the season, behind only a 66-0 shutout win over Troy earlier in the year.

Oh yeah, and Todd Gurley comes back next week.

DEFENSE: A-

Early on, it looked as if today’s game was going to be an offensive shootout as UK and UGA scored a combined 59 points in the first half. But UGA’s defense locked in during the second half and didn’t allow any points until the game was very much in hand. After such a terrible performance against Florida in which UGA surrendered 418 rushing yards, Georgia fans have to be encouraged to see a lot more energy out of the defense just a week later. Freshman Lorenzo Carter enjoyed a breakout performance as well in place of the benched Leonard Floyd. Carter racked up two sacks and an additional tackle for loss early on in the game. His size, speed and athleticism really stood out for most of the game.

SPECIAL TEAMS: B+

UGA’s special teams unit was more like “A Tale of Two Cities” against UK. Isaiah McKenzie showed why he’s referred to as “The Human Joystick” with two beautiful return touchdowns, including one on the opening kickoff. However, Georgia struggled mightily against Kentucky’s pooch kickoffs. Georgia struggled with all three pooch kicks, fumbling one kickoff and nearly fumbling the other two as well.

COACHING: A

Mark Richt withstood a ton of criticism this past week following UGA’s disappointing 38-20 loss to the Gators at The World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party. Although his team was embarrassed in that game, there seemed to be absolutely no residual effects this week in Lexington. For nearly the entire game, UGA showed a lot of passion and energy in its blowout win over the Wildcats. It’s not always easy to come back from a loss, especially a bad one to a rival. But Georgia did it impressively in a raucous Senior Day environment.

OVERALL: A

Georgia played one of its best games of the season, despite surrendering 24 points in the first half. Mason finally had his breakout performance and the rushing attack never looked better with Chubb and Michel shouldering the load. The Bulldogs seemed to have put the Florida loss behind them and look ready for a matchup against No. 3 ranked Auburn next week. Gurley returns and things are looking up again in Athens.
