Two days after Jake Fromm declared for the NFL Draft, the Georgia Bulldogs have reportedly added an experienced quarterback. ESPN’s Mark Schlabach reported, per sources, that UGA has added grad transfer QB Jamie Newman from Wake Forest.

Newman was 220-of-361 passing (60.9 completion percentage) for 2,868 yards with 26 touchdowns and 11 interceptions in 2019. A dual-threat quarterback, he also added another 574 rushing yards and six touchdowns for Wake Forest this past season. As a graduate transfer, he has immediate eligibility for the 2020 season.

There were strong indications that Newman was heading to Athens. Earlier this week, 247Sports recruiting experts posted “Crystal Ball” predictions that Newman would transfer to Georgia. Earlier Friday, word spread that Newman could be found in the UGA directory.

With Georgia’s other quarterbacks – Stetson Bennett IV (backup, former JUCO QB), D’Wan Mathis (freshman who redshirted in 2019) and Carson Beck (class of 2020 early enrollee) – lacking Power 5 experience, Newman appears to be the frontrunner to land the starting quarterback job for 2020.
