An apparent rising star in the coaching profession is leaving Georgia for a promotion with a Sun Belt program.

Austin Armstrong, who previously worked at Louisiana, is returning back to the program.

Bruce Feldman of The Athletic reported: “SOURCE: #Louisiana head coach Billy Napier will be promoting safeties coach Patrick Toney to DC (to replace Ron Roberts who is headed to Baylor) and also is hiring #Georgia Defensive Analyst Austin Armstrong to coach ILBs. Toney is considered a rising star in the coaching biz.”

Previously a GA at Louisiana-Lafayette, Armstrong served as a defensive quality control coach in Athens.

It makes sense that the Cajuns had some staff turnover after a successful 2019 season when they went 11-3 and won the LendingTree Bowl over Miami, Ohio, 27-17.

Napier himself was mentioned for some more high-profile jobs, including Mississippi State and Baylor before he elected to remain with the Cajuns.
