The Jacob Eason era in Athens is officially here.

Via a report from Online Athens, the highly-touted true freshman quarterback will start for the Georgia Bulldogs on Saturday against Nicholls State.

In his collegiate debut last weekend versus North Carolina, the Washington native performed well — going 8-of-12 for 131 yards and one touchdown. He split time with fifth-year senior Greyson Lambert in the ‘Dawgs 33-24 victory over the Tar Heels.

It was a fierce battle throughout the spring and fall camp for the starting quarterback job. Lambert held the advantage as it pertains to experience, whilst Eason boasts lethal arm strength and very good size.

Against a ranked opponent in the opener, it makes sense head coach Kirby Smart would opt to go with the experienced option to start the contest. While Lambert didn’t do anything to lose the job versus the Tar Heels, it was plainly apparent Eason is the superior option.
