Report: Mel Tucker bringing another Georgia assistant with him to Colorado
A couple of days ago, it was reported that former Georgia DC Mel Tucker was bringing Georgia quality control assistant Jay Johnson with him to Colorado to serve as his offensive coordinator.
It appears he’ll be bringing another Georgia staffer with him to the Pac-12, as Tyson Summers is expected to join his staff, too.
Per reports, Summers will be Colorado’s new defensive coordinator:

It’s interesting that Tucker is bringing two quality control assistants with him to Boulder and not going with more experienced guys, but it’s clear he trusts them and feels they are ready for bigger roles.
Summers was a defensive coordinator at Colorado State in 2015, so he has experience out west.
Fudge.
Summers was also DC at UCF and head coach at Georgia Southern. His stretch at GSU was a bit of a flop because he tried to move away from the triple option they had been running for years, but otherwise he’s solid.
Saying all this to say that he is experienced, so for Adam to be surprised that Mel didn’t pick “more experienced” coaches means Adam didn’t do his homework.
Correct. And Jay Johnson has also been an OC at the P5 level.
SDS authors tend to be incorrect on their reporting quite regularly.
Why would they leave Georgia for Colorado? A mystery to me.
Why would it be a mystery. They went from low paid analysts to actual coaches. Better position, better pay. No mystery.
Boulder > Athens
Athens > Auburn
So, guess it’d be Boulder >>>>> Auburn
