Three kickers and 7 Georgia players were selected in the 2020 NFL Draft; however, Rodrigo Blankenship wasn’t one of them.

The former UGA kicker signed a free agent deal with the Indianapolis Colts following the conclusion of the draft. According to the NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, Blakenship received a $20,000 signing bonus from the Colts. Teams have a small pool of money in which to sign free agents. Blankenship will also compete with Colts kicker Chase McLaughlin for the starting job. McLaughlin took over for the legendary Adam Vinatieri in December.

McLaughlin made 18-of-23 field goals in 2019 with 3 different teams — Chargers, 49ers and Colts.

Blankenship became a cult hero in Athens and was one of the most recognizable players in the nation. He made 27-of-33 attempts during his senior season in 2019 and won the Lou Groza Award given annually to the nation’s top kicker.

Exiting high school, Blankenship was ranked as the nation’s No. 7 kicker in the class of 2015.

The Colts finished 7-9 in 2019.
