Sahvir Wheeler records first triple-double in Georgia history as Bulldogs hold big lead over LSU
Sahvir Wheeler has been the leader of the Georgia men’s basketball team all year. He has recorded several points-assists double-doubles.
But, as one of the smallest guys on the court, he hasn’t really been a threat as a rebounder. Well, that all changed on Tuesday night against LSU.
The Bulldogs have been dominating the Tigers all night, and the 5-10 guard has been electric. Before the halfway point of the second half, Wheeler had recorded the first triple-double in Georgia history.
He recorded his 10th assist on this wacky alley-oop pass to KD Johnson, who had a bit of trouble finishing off the dunk:
Sahvir Wheeler (@sahvir_) becomes the first @UGABasketball player ever with a triple-double.
This pass to K.D. Johnson earned Wheeler his tenth assist tonight.Right now for Wheeler: 12 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists

Here’s another of his great assists:

At the point he recorded the triple-double, he had 12 points, 10 assists and 10 rebounds. There’s still plenty of game time left, but with Georgia holding a big lead, we’ll see how long Wheeler stays on the court to add to his numbers.
DGD.
That was an absolute whooping. UGA played extremely well. Congrats.
One has to think UGA BB is moving in the right direction under Tom Crean. Hopefully he can move us into the top half of SEC programs and become a regular in the NCAA Tournament, where anything can happen! I highly doubt we’ll make the dance this year but with Wheeler still (presumably) having two more years we should have a great shot in the next year or so.
He is going to need to instill some discipline. Few teams turn the ball over more than UGA. I get the up tempo part that partly causes that. But too many trips down the court without getting a shot off causes the inconsistency we see in wins/losses.
He’s going to need to recruit some effective bigs. So far that’s their main weakness. Camara is the only one and so he’s a magnet for foul trouble as teams will attack him until he’s out and then crush UGA in the paint.
Boom! That’a how I see it. UGA is vertically challenged.
I still don’t see it with Crean. Pathetic defense, wildly inconsistent shooting, turnover prone, and lack of big men to win the rebound battles.
