Sean McDonough and Greg McElroy were live on ESPN Thursday afternoon to preview the broadcast of the Sugar Bowl between Georgia and Notre Dame. McDonough opened the broadcast by commenting on the security situation in New Orleans after the New Year’s Day terror attack that claimed the lives of at least 14 people.

The good news, for McDonough, was provided when the FBI revealed they found no direct link to other attacks across the country and believes the attacker was the sole perpetrator in the event. While the attack was horrific, that announcement adds a bit of a sense of security to those still in and around New Orleans for Thursday.

“These teams are anxious to play the game, it’s been a very emotional couple of days here in the city. But good news given today by the FBI in that they believe the perpetrator acted alone,” said McDonough. “So, I think a lot of us feel like the possibility of something bad happening today is significantly reduced.”

Officials in New Orleans have begun the process of resuming some sense of normalcy with portions of the investigation providing insight into the attack. New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell also announced Bourbon Street was reopening in time for the Sugar Bowl, and hopefully that adds a sense of hope and resolve for the area after the tragedy.
