It sure looked as if Alabama’s stout run defense would hold Nick Chubb to less than 100 rushing yards for the first time in 13 games.

Since replacing a suspended Todd Gurley in a game at Missouri on Oct. 11, 2014, Chubb has topped the 100-yard mark in every game. But, deep into the second half, it looked as though the Tide would deny the UGA star his 13th consecutive 100-yard game.

Until Chubb burst through the middle of the defense for an 83-yard touchdown in the final minute of the third quarter.

Herschel Walker, on hand in Athens, Ga., for the game, ran for 100 or more yards in 13 consecutive games as well. But at the time, bowl game stats didn’t count. So due to a technicality, Chubb has broken Walker’s record.

There are other records that Chubb is chasing. Walker’s single-season Georgia rushing record is 1,891. Through five games, Chubb is averaging 149.0 rushing yards. Even if the Bulldogs fail to win the SEC East and make the championship game, he’s on pace to rush for 1,937 yards in 13 games.

Alabama, an underdog for the first time since 2009 and at risk of losing two games by early October for the first time in years, played angry. The front seven disrupted the Georgia running game and forced Greyson Lambert into perhaps his worst game as the Bulldogs’ quarterback.

Still, Chubb managed to top 100 yards. His consistency is pretty incredible. Despite not starting until the team’s sixth game of 2014, Chubb already is on the cusp of Georgia’s top 10 all-time career rushing list. With 2,146 career yards, Chubb could pass No. 10 Musa Smith (2,202) and No. 9 Willie McClendon (2,228) next weekend at Tennessee.
