Following the news that backup quarterback Parker McLeod plans to leave Georgia and not participate in spring practice, the Bulldogs were suddenly left incredibly thin at the game’s most important position heading into camp. McLeod’s decision complicated matters for the Bulldogs as senior Brice Ramsey had already announced he planned to take advantage of the graduate transfer rule and play elsewhere in 2017.

Considering Georgia would be faced with the reality of going through spring with only three quarterbacks on the roster — sophomore Jacob Eason, true freshman Jake Fromm and redshirt sophomore walk-on Sam Vaughn, head coach Kirby Smart announced Tuesday that he has asked Ramsey to stay for the spring.

Ramsey was happy to oblige.

“I’ll let you know since you’ll see it today, Brice (Ramsey) is going to be there and help us,” Smart said during his introductory press conference. “He’s going to be a guy who’s out there, not from a scheme standpoint, but he’s going to help. He’s loyal to this program. He’s been very appreciative and has handled everything in a first-class manner. We asked him to help and he said ‘Absolutely, I’ll come out there.’ But not from a standpoint of taking reps away. We’re talking a standpoint of can we get enough balls being thrown? He’s going to do that.

“Those three (quarterbacks), they’re going to get a lot of work. Most of the time, you’d like to have five quarterbacks but three of them getting the reps. What are the other two doing? Most of the time they’re helping facilitate a drill. Brice is going to do that to stay in shape, to keep himself in shape, and continue looking at other places.”

It seems Ramsey’s final appearance for the Bulldogs will be a totally selfless move, something all Georgia fans should appreciate.
