Much of the blame for Georgia’s loss to LSU went to the sub-par play of QB Jake Fromm, with some tied to the play-calling away from running plays by RB Elijah Holyfield.

Fromm was 16-for-34 for 209 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. But during the CBS broadcast by Gary Danielson, and this week with Sports Illustrated’s Ross Dellenger, Fromm’s missed opportunities on potential touchdown throws was documented. They each focused on three missed opportunities against the Tigers that would’ve resulted in sure touchdowns for the Georgia offense.

This kind of breakdown has led some to question if Fromm needs to give up some playing time to backup QB Justin Fields, who regularly plays a few series, but has not been inserted in key moments, or for an extended period to engineer the offense. For example against LSU, Fields didn’t attempt a pass.

Coach Kirby Smart has said the problems on those plays were a combination of poor protection and Fromm misses. Smart also admitted that the coaching staff considered Fields, but by the time he would have taken over, the game was out of hand.

Some have questioned if Fields is ready to shoulder more of the load, simply from a standpoint of digesting the playbook and reading defenses. With a bye week ahead of next week’s Florida game, that extra time should reveal how the coaching staff feels about each quarterback and which one truly gives the Bulldogs the best chance to win.
