Georgia Tech to be without QB Haynes King for Notre Dame game, per report
Georgia Tech will be without starting quarterback Haynes King on Saturday when it hosts No. 12 Notre Dame at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, according to a report from ESPN’s Pete Thamel
King has started all 20 games in which he has been available for the Yellow Jackets since transferring into the program in January 2023. He was knocked out of Georgia Tech’s 41-34 win over North Carolina last week with an upper-body injury and did not return.
Georgia Tech (5-2) will turn to third-year sophomore Zach Pyron against the Irish. Pyron has started 2 previous games throughout his career. The vast majority of his game reps came in 2022, when he threw 82 times for 565 yards and 3 scores with 3 picks. He has thrown 15 total passes for 85 yards since.
Pyron has still been part of the offense in specific spots this year, though. He has 17 carries for 60 yards and 4 rushing touchdowns.
As a true freshman in 2022, Pyron started in a 28-27 road win over Virginia Tech. That day, he threw for 253 yards, ran for 66 yards, scored 2 total touchdowns, and rallied the Yellow Jackets from a 27-16 fourth-quarter deficit to win.
Notre Dame is also dealing with injury issues of its own. Earlier this week, head coach Marcus Freeman announced that star cornerback Benjamin Morrison would miss the remainder of the season with a hip injury.
Notre Dame (5-1) is a 12.5-point favorite at Caesars. Saturday’s kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. ET on ESPN.
