Indiana nearing CFP lock: Paul Finebaum, Heather Dinich project IU’s status

Indiana is one of the most asked-about teams in the College Football Playoff race, and things have gotten that much more interesting since the Hoosiers did not look quite as advertised on Saturday.
They fell 38-15 to the No. 2 Ohio State Buckeyes in unconvincing fashion, marking their first loss of the season. So, are the Hoosiers a lock for the CFP in its new and expanded 12-team format?
ESPN college football analyst Heather Dinich sees them as being pretty safe as a team, just as long as they do not fall outside of the top 11 teams.
“As long as they are not ranked lower than 11th, I think Indiana is pretty safe,” Dinich said. “I’ve sliced this every which way and I think a lot of things would have to happen for them to fall out. But as long as they’re 11 or higher, I think they’re in.”
Paul Finebaum also sees it happening, even though he is not exactly optimistic about IU’s chances once the Playoffs start.
“I believe it even though I don’t want to,” Finebaum said. “They were helped by the carnage in the SEC and Colorado. Other than that, I think we’d have a long conversation. Instead, the conversation is short.”
Indiana is expected to end the season off on a high note against Purdue on Saturday. The two teams are set to kick off at 7 p.m. ET on Saturday.
