Rivalry week always brings out the best in both teams involved.

Kentucky and Louisville met as rivals again at L&N Federal Credit Union Stadium on Saturday. The Cardinals faced the Wildcats on their final stop before the ACC title game. Kentucky would have loved nothing than to hand its rival a 5th straight loss in the series.

Kentucky was on a 2-game losing streak after losing to Alabama and South Carolina. Louisville hadn’t lost since the Pitt game with Jeff Brohm and his team on a 4-game winning streak.

The Wildcats and Cardinals really don’t like each other, with a pregame brawl as a testament to that. Kentucky won 38-31 when the smoke cleared.

Here’s some takeaways from Saturday’s rivalry game between Kentucky and Louisville:

QB duel in Louisville

Both Devin Leary and Jack Plummer took a while to get going, but when they did, it was fun to watch.

Leary and Plummer made big plays to keep their teams in the game as things really started to heat up in the 2nd half. The running game for Kentucky didn’t have much success and Leary made up for it with his play.

Plummer went for more than 200 yards passing with a pair of touchdowns and 1 fumble. Leary also had 200+ yards passing with 3 scores and 1 interception.

This rivalry game didn’t disappoint from an offensive standpoint.

Barion Brown’s blazing speed shown on kick return TD

To say that Barion Brown is fast should be considered an understatement.

All Brown needed was a lane and he was off to the races. Having a special teams player like this can be extremely helpful, especially in a tight rivalry game like fans saw on Saturday.

Brown scored on a kick return as a freshman last season and already had 1 return touchdown this season coming into the game.

Brown is an electric playmaker for Kentucky and is amazing to watch.

J.J. Weaver comes up huge

Kentucky hasn’t had the best of luck when it comes to forcing turnovers. The Wildcats had the 10th-best turnover margin (-0.09) in the SEC coming into Week 13.

That didn’t seem to matter as Kentucky forced a pair of fumbles in the 2nd half that were crucial to its success. J.J. Weaver was in the right place at the right place and recovered both of them.

The second recovery was important in setting up a Ray Davis touchdown in the 4th quarter to give the Wildcats the lead.
