AP Top 25 voters called out for not including Kentucky after win over Mizzou
There’s no questioning the SEC’s standing in college football. The conference has seven of the top college football teams in the nation, according to the latest AP Top 25 poll, which was released on Sunday. However, there’s one SEC team that many believe has been woefully overlooked.
Kentucky (2-0) was not included in the nation’s top 25 teams per the Associated Press despite coming off of a conference win at home against Missouri. The blue Cats beat the Columbia Cats 35-28 on Saturday but still couldn’t make the cut.
ESPN and SEC Network television analyst Peter Burns was one of the first to weigh in and he didn’t hold back:
Not having @UKFootball ranked is an absolute joke https://t.co/9VEEvj5re4

Kentucky beat reporter Justin Rowland made a strong case for the Wildcats being ranked higher than UK’s current spot in the “other’s receiving votes category”:
Cats are 39th in AP under “others receiving votes”. Ten votes behind Texas, which lost to the last place West team by three scores, and 21 votes behind Indiana, which lost to Iowa by 28 points in its only game against a P5 opponent.

College footballs on Twitter, however, had mixed opinions about Kentucky being left out. Here are some examples:
We’re 39th behind the likes of Texas and Indiana. Gotta just keep winning and proving the AP voters wrong.

Because after all they did beat louisiana-monroe and the almighty Missouri Tigers

Mizzou and UL Monroe. Please quietly excuse yourself.

Definitely should be ranked somewhere in the bottom half of the top 25.

Kentucky should be in the Top 25 soon. The Wildcats host Chattanooga on Saturday. Kentucky should be a heavy favorite. A 3-0 record would likely warrant being included in the AP poll.
