It isn’t taking long for Eddie Gran to come back to Kentucky.

After parting ways with the Wildcats last December — when he had still been serving as the offensive coordinator — Gran is now returning to the program as an off-the-field assistant, according to Nick Roush of Kentucky Sports Radio. Gran was Kentucky’s OC from 2016-20, before he and the Wildcats agreed to end his tenure at the end of last season.

Now, Gran will be in a role that is “administrative, mirroring a quality control coach or director of player personnel’s duties,” per Roush, who added that he expects the Wildcats to announce the move Friday.

Gran first worked with Stoops when both served on Jimbo Fisher’s staff at Florida State from 2010-12. Gran was the Seminoles’ offensive coordinator, a role he then had at Cincinnati from 2013-15.

Since leaving Kentucky at the end of last year, Gran hadn’t been coaching to begin the 2021 season. But that will soon be changing, even if he won’t be one of the Wildcats’ 10 designated assistant coaches.

According to Roush, Gran and Kentucky were on good terms following his departure, so it makes sense that he’ll now be coming back to the program.
