Kentucky basketball is in serious trouble.

The Wildcats, the No. 4 AP preseason team, dropped a rough contest to Georgia in Athens Saturday, 75-68. That’s Kentucky’s 2nd straight loss and, according to Joe Lunardi, drops them from the projected tournament field were the season to end today.

Thankfully for the Wildcats there’s still plenty of basketball to be played, but they’ll have to truly earn their spot in the field come March. Kentucky still has battles against Tennessee, Auburn, Florida and a rejuvenated Arkansas squad to get past. Drop more than 1 of those and they’re likely out for the count.

Kentucky fans have been frustrated all year: with players, with head coach John Calipari and with the fact that this team is considerably more talented than their record would let on (16-9, 7-5 SEC). 5-star talents, the reigning National Player of the Year, and yet here we are.

Fans and media let loose their frustrations with the Wildcats following the ugly loss.
