Father of Destin, Keaten Wade blasts Kentucky: 'They didn’t keep their promises up there'
Destin and Keaten Wade entered the transfer portal following the end of Kentucky’s regular season.
The former 4-star prospects hail from Nashville, Tennessee and exit the program following 2 seasons with the Wildcats. And following their entry into the portal, the twins’ father put Kentucky on blast for failing to “keep their promises.”
Keaten Wade saw some success at Kentucky, finishing a 2-year stint with 51 total tackles and 2.5 sacks as a pass rusher.
“They didn’t keep their promises up there. We’re not going to go for that,” Steve Wade told Main Street Maury, via KSR. “I’m mainly talking about Destin, not Keaten.”
Wade saw just one game of action at Kentucky, struggling in the Music City bowl against Iowa. Wade finished 16-of-30 with 98 yards and 2 interceptions.
But his father sees that stemming from a lack of preparation against what was a strong Iowa defense.
“They threw him in that bowl game and never did give him a chance to redeem himself, under circumstances that nobody could have really did anything with, Iowa being the No. 2, No. 3 defense in the country,” Steve Wade said. “We were promised by (Liam) Coen that Destin ‘was too good an athlete to just be sitting on the bench’. We did our part, we trusted in Kentucky to do theirs.”
Steve Wade was not finished, however. He continued in an interview with a local outlet, via KSR:
“Destin could have been just as good as that quarterback we had this year,” he said. “There’s nothing any of those guys sitting in that quarterback couldn’t have done (that Leary did). They didn’t give him an opportunity to even compete. So we’ve got to do what we’ve got to do. He’s got to get on the field somewhere.”
