Devonte Ross signed with Kentucky as part of its 2021 recruiting class. However, he never joined the Wildcats this season, and he tweeted on Nov. 26 that his recruitment had reopened.

Now, it’s official that Ross will never play for Kentucky, as he’s decided on a new school. On Thursday, it was announced that the former 3-star wide receiver has signed with Troy, where he’ll play for head coach Jon Sumrall, who was previously a Wildcats defensive assistant from 2019-21.

Ross, who attended Cartersville (Ga.) High School, could provide a boost to the Trojans’ receiving corps. He still hasn’t shown what he can do at the college level, but it’s possible he’s capable of excelling, considering his talent and high school success.

Troy’s 2022 recruiting class has only 5 signees and is ranked No. 147 in the country, per the 247Sports Composite team rankings. Ross isn’t a part of that, but he could potentially be among the best players who the Trojans will be adding heading into next season.

Although Kentucky is losing Ross before he even joined the program, the Wildcats have 3 wide receivers in their 2022 recruiting class who have signed. So their receiving corps could be in solid shape heading into next season.
