The Charlotte Hornets are having a rough season, sitting at 16-36 with the All-Star break quickly approaching.

Former Kentucky star Michael Kidd-Gilchrist — the No. 2 overall pick in the 2012 NBA Draft — is currently in his eighth season with Charlotte, but he has seen his role greatly reduced this year.

Now, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Hornets are planning to buy out his contract. And, per Woj, the Dallas Mavericks are interested in adding him to their roster:

That would be a nice move for MKG, as the Mavs are in playoff contention in the Western Conference. The Mavericks have a 32-21 record and are currently in the No. 7 spot in the playoff race.

Kidd-Gilchrist is currently averaging 4 points and 2.9 rebounds while playing 13.3 minutes per game. If he goes to Dallas, it remains to be seen what his role would be.
