Karl-Anthony Towns, the former Kentucky star, was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft.
But, at 6-11, he’s not exactly the first guy you think of when you think of 3-point shooting prowess.
On Saturday night during NBA All-Star Weekend, Towns — now with the Minnesota Timberwolves — changed that line of thinking. He won the 3-point shooting contest, setting a record with 29 points in the final round:

In the first round, Towns set a blistering pace, scoring 22 points. But that was just a sign of things to come:

This wasn’t a performance that came out of nowhere, though. Towns is shooting 5.2 3-pointers per game this season for the Timberwolves, knocking them down at an impressive 41% clip. For his career, he’s a 39.6% shooter from beyond the arc.
Now, he has the hardware to back up the claim that he’s the best big-man shooter in NBA history. We’ll see if he can defend his title next year!
