One of Kentucky’s greatest basketball coaches is getting the thanks he deserves. Kentucky announced on Tuesday via Twitter that Tubby Smith’s jersey will be hanging from the rafters in Rupp Arena for all to see.

Smith coached men’s basketball at Kentucky for 10 years with a win/loss record of 263-83,  and a winning percentage of .760.

Kentucky’s athletic director Mitch Barnhart made the announcement in Rupp Arena.

“There’s some really special people up there in the rafters,” said Barnhart. “It’s with great pride and enjoyment and really a sense of excitement that we add one more name to the list. That man is  Tubby Smith. A national championship coach, a national coach of the year. A gentleman who is just a gentleman of gentleman’s.”

Smith is the 44th jersey to be retired at Rupp Arena.
