At the start of Kentucky’s fall camp, Mark Stoops addressed the status of two newcomers.

As for Auburn transfer Joey Gatewood, the Wildcats are still waiting to hear on his eligibility for 2020.

“We expect an answer here relatively soon,” Stoops said before Tuesday’s practice, per Jon Hale of the Louisville Courier Journal. “I don’t think it’s appropriate to speculate on what I expect at this point in time.”

Gatewood announced his transfer to UK back in December 2019. If the NCAA grants him a waiver to avoid sitting out, he could be playing against his former team in Week 1.

As for another newcomer, Stoops confirmed that linebacker Torrance Davis is eligible to play. Davis joined the Wildcats’ 2020 recruiting class after National Signing Day.

“Torrance Davis is a late addition to our class,” Stoops said via the UK athletics official website. “He is a two-way player who can play linebacker or running back and with our need at inside linebacker Torrance agreed to start inside. We’re happy to add Torrance to our roster out of Cleveland. He’s a very versatile player with a lot of play-making ability.”

Davis was cleared to enroll at Kentucky in late July, according to Chris Fisher of 247Sports CatsPause.com.
