The four Kentucky freshmen suspended for Saturday’s game against South Carolina after firing BB guns on UK’s campus last Sunday night have now been charged with second-degree disorderly conduct in Fayette County (Ky.) District Court, according to a report by the Lexington Herald-Leader.

The offense is considered a misdemeanor, punishable by up to 90 days in jail. The four players involved in the incident — tailback Boom Williams, wideout Dorian Baker, quarterback Drew Barker and defensive end Tymere Dubose — were allegedly playing a game of “man hunt” on the university’s campus when someone called the UK Police Department to report gun shots on campus. The university went into a lockdown until the issue was resolved.

“We have some good kids that used poor judgment that made a mistake. They know they made a mistake, and they’re being held accountable for it,” head coach Mark Stoops told the Advocate Messenger earlier this week. “We tried to address it quickly and decisive. They were wrong. … They’re remorseful. They realize it now. So, we’ve handled it publicly with what I said and internally within our team.”

The university said earlier in the week it plans to hand down further punishment from within the football program beyond the one-game suspension. With the issue now resolved in court, those additional punishments may be on their way.

Barker and Dubose were expected to redshirt this season, but Williams and Baker have both been impact players on offense through Kentucky’s first four games. The two players have combined to gain 296 yards of offense and three touchdowns so far this season.
