On Monday morning, a crowd of parents, athletes and fans gathered at the Kentucky state capital to demand the right to play high school sports this fall.

For now, at least, it appears their concerns have been heard and their protest has been a successful one.

On Monday afternoon, Kentucky governor Andy Beshear announced that the Kentucky High School Athletics Association had reached a decision to allow high school sports:

That means football and other fall sports will, theoretically, start on time this year.

Beshear said he doesn’t necessarily agree with the decision to play, but he will not overturn the KHSAA’s plan:

Now, we’ll see if the schools that play this fall can avoid COVID-19 outbreaks and keep the games going on as scheduled.
