Kentucky reveals 7-man captain class for 2023 season
Kentucky has named team captains for the new season, a seven-man class headlined by a pair of offensive linemen and first-year UK quarterback Devin Leary.
Leary is joined by Eli Cox and Kenneth Horsey on the offensive side of the football. Defensive captains include defensive lineman Deone Walker, linebacker Trevin Wallace, outside ‘backer JJ Weaver, and defensive back Zion Childress.

Horsey and Weaver were selected as team captains last season as well.
Walker is the lone underclassman in the group. The 6-foot-6, 348-pound defender was an immediate disruptor as a true freshman last fall and landed on the All-SEC Freshman Team for his efforts.

Leary arrived in Lexington this offseason after being a multi-year starter at NC State and quickly endeared himself to his new teammates. The former Wolfpack quarterback has thrown for 6,807 yards and 62 touchdowns in his career.
In 2021, he threw for 35 touchdowns and led the Wolfpack to a 9-win regular season.
He and Wildcats debut on Saturday against Ball State at home. Kickoff is set for 12 p.m. ET on SEC Network.
