Kentucky has never made the College World Series. The Wildcats are now one win away from Omaha.

No. 2 national seed Kentucky dominated 15-seed Oregon State, winning Game 1 of the Lexington Super Regional 10-0.

UK broke the scoring ice in the bottom of the 2nd when Ryan Nicholson doubled to deep center, plating Nick Lopez.

It turned out that would be the only run needed from the Bat Cats. Kentucky hurler Trey Pooser pitched a gem, tossing 7 shutout innings, allowing just 1 hit while striking out 8 and walking 4 over 108 pitches (66 strikes).

It was just a 3-0 game when Pooser recorded his last out in the 7th inning, helped by Ryan Waldschmidt.

Pooser’s teammates made sure he’d get the win by pouring on the runs in the bottom of the 7th. UK needed only 2 hits to plate thanks to 5 walks, 2 errors and a wild pitch.

One of the hits in the inning was a 2-run home run off the bat of Nicholson, the only homer of the game.

With Pooser out, UK turned to Jackson Nove. While every pitcher welcomes a big lead, Nove didn’t need it. He completed the shutout by tossing 2 scoreless innings, striking out 4 while not allowing a hit.

BBN has baseball fever with the Wildcats nearing program history. Kentucky played in front of a record crowd of 7,441. Kentucky Proud Park is sure to be packed again on Sunday as UK and OSU face off at 9 p.m.
