Liam Coen reportedly reverses course on Bucs’ commitment, interviews for Jags’ head coaching job
Liam Coen was in Jacksonville on Thursday interviewing for the Jaguars’ vacant head coaching job, according to a report. The news comes just 1 day after the former Kentucky offensive coordinator had agreed to a lucrative contract to remain as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers OC.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter shared that news on Thursdsay afternoon. The 39-year-old Coen had agreed to a deal on Wednesday that would’ve made him the NFL’s highest-paid coordinator, according to Schefter. However, Schefter reports that the Buccaneers hadn’t had any contact with Coen or his representation on Thursday.
Schefter reported that the Bucs had made numerous efforts to reach Coen, who instead of continuing as Tampa Bay’s offensive coordinator was in Jacksonville trying to become the Jaguars’ new head coach.
The latest development with Coen comes just 1 day after he had pulled himself out of the running for the Jaguars’ head coaching job. But just hours later, the Jaguars and general manager Trent Baalke parted ways, which apparently changed things for Coen.
If Coen does depart Tampa Bay, it would be his 6th job in 6 years. He was with the Los Angeles Rams in 2020, Kentucky in 2021, the Rams again in 2022, Kentucky again in 2023 and then the Bucs in 2024.
