Mark Pope and the Kentucky Wildcats went down to Starkville on Saturday to play the No. 14 Mississippi State Bulldogs. The Wildcats earned a hard-fought 95-90 victory, but fans were even more impressed by Pope’s actions following the game.

After the win, Pope spent time meeting with several Kentucky fans who were in attendance. However, there was a Kentucky fan who was in a wheelchair and was unable to get down to the court. Pope saw this fan and decided to go up and meet him in the stands.

Pope hugged the fan and then pulled a chair up and sat down to talk with the fan. It was a classy gesture from the first-year head coach who went out of his way to make a fan’s day.

On the court, the Wildcats added another impressive victory. The team improved to 13-3 overall and 2-1 in SEC play. The Wildcats needed the win after falling to Georgia in their last contest.

Senior guard Jaxson Robinson led the Wildcats with a season-high 27 points. The guard also added 3 rebounds and 2 assists while shooting 70% from 3-point land. All 5 Wildcat starters scored in double-digits and Amari Williams collected a double-double. Ansley Almonor came up big off the bench, chipping in 11 points and 1 rebound.

Next up, the Wildcats return home for 2 more ranked matchups. On Tuesday, the team faces off against No. 10 Texas A&M and then plays No. 5 Alabama next Saturday. The team next goes on the road on Jan. 25 to take on Vanderbilt.
