Mark Stoops now sits alone atop Kentucky football’s all-time winningest coaches list. The Wildcats defeated the Florida Gators 26-16 in The Swamp, and Stoops now has the most wins as a head coach in program history.
It was a fitting defensive night for Stoops’ defense, too, as it stifled Florida’s offense and quarterback Anthony Richardson.
Stoops tied Bear Bryant with last week’s win over Miami (OH). Now, he’s atop the leaderboard with No. 61.
Following the thrilling win over the Gators, Stoops was asked about the accomplishment.
“Fortunate,” Stoops said. “Just fortunate. A lot of great players and coaches have been through here. To be able to persevere through this difficult conference, I have nothing for respect and appreciation.”
During Stoops’ 10-year tenure, he’s an impressive 61-53 overall.
Bear Bryant coached at Kentucky prior to his stops at Texas A&M and Alabama. Bryant finished 60-23-5 during his Kentucky 8-year tenure.
