Mark Stoops’ Kentucky Wildcats gave the Georgia Bulldogs a run for their money on Saturday night in Lexington, losing a close one, 13-12.

The Bulldogs were favored to defeat the Wildcats by at least three scores, but instead, it was Kentucky that led 6-3 at halftime. Head coach Mark Stoops explained why he thought Georgia was ultimately the team that came out on top of a game that came down to the wire.

โ€œYou know, they are very efficient โ€” there are things you canโ€™t do to them,โ€ Stoops said in his postgame press conference. โ€œThey pick everything up. They are very efficient, as I said earlier in the week, I think they have a very cohesive offensive line and itโ€™s a very good group.โ€

In game where both teams had issues generating any type of explosiveness on offense, a 33-yard pass from quarterback Carson Beck to wide receiver Dominic Lovett made all the difference in the Bulldogs being able to run down to clock to escape with the win.

โ€œWhat I donโ€™t like is one play during that four-minute drive where they had the sail (route),โ€ Stoops said. โ€œWe have to man that up and not give them that sail route that was completed on their sidelines and thatโ€™s the one play that will haunt me right here tonight and for a long time.โ€

While many will praise Kentucky for the way it was able to rebound and nearly beat the best team in the nation after suffering a 25-point home loss, Stoops doesn’t take time for moral victories.

โ€œI think you know Iโ€™m not saying Iโ€™m pleased with the moral victory,โ€ Stoops said. “We played hard. I thought we had opportunities to win the game.โ€
