Kentucky’s offense is facing a host of challenges, from continuity at quarterback, to a downfield passing game.

The Wildcats are off this week, and return to action next week against Vanderbilt.

“Yeah certainly our ability to be balanced,” coach Mark Stoops said on the SEC coaches media teleconference. “We had some success moving the ball Saturday, but you know it’s generally when we have success moving the ball it’s running the football and so need to improve in the passing game and you know that’s a variety of things. That’s protection, that’s getting open, that’s delivering the football on time and it’s also schematically put them in a position to be successful a lot to work on there in the pass game.”

Last week in the loss to Georgia, Kentucky RB Chris Rodriguez rushed 20 times for 108 yards for the Wildcats, who only managed Matt Ruffolo’s 34-yard field goal to lose their second in a row following a lackluster effort at Missouri.

Quarterback Joey Gatewood was 15 of 25 passing for 91 yards in his first start in place of Terry Wilson, who was out with an injured wrist. There has been an earlier groundswell of fan support for Gatewood, but it’s unclear how Wilson’s injury is healing, or the direction the coaching staff wants to go at QB next week.
