Mark Stoops just picked up the biggest win of his Kentucky tenure.

Stoops’ Troops went into Oxford and stunned No. 6 Ole Miss with a 20-17 upset victory over Lane Kiffin’s Rebels. Ole Miss has been one of the most talked-about teams of 2024, but the Wildcats may have derailed the Lane Train’s path to the College Football Playoff.

In his on-field postgame interview, Stoops was asked for his reaction to the field-goal attempt that went wide, sealing UK’s win.

“I walked up to Coach White. We’d played so good, he’d done such a good job. All of our coaches did. And I said, ‘One time. One time we need a break. We need a block or a miss.’ We’re fortunate to get the miss,” Stoops shared on ABC.

It’s not the first time this season that Kentucky has fought for 4 quarters against a top-10 team. Stoops pointed out that Saturday shows the 1-point game against Georgia wasn’t a fluke performance.

“It means a lot. We started tough with a brutal schedule and our guys just keep on fighting,” Stoops said postgame. “They keep on coming back. We took the No. 1 down to the wire. That’s no fluke. But yet we have so much work to do and we know that. I love these kids and these coaches.”

Stoops and the Wildcats are off in Week 6, but will look to keep the momentum rolling in Week 7 against Vanderbilt back in Lexington.
