Mark Stoops is part of a family of football coaches who have made their name around the country at several programs. Now a member of the Stoops family is set to join the Kentucky program as a defensive assistant.

FootballScoop reported that Mike Stoops is set to join the Kentucky staff as linebackers coach to replace Jon Sumrall, who has recently left to take the head coaching job at Troy. Sumrall coached inside linebackers was promoted to co-defensive coordinator last spring.

Mike Stoops this past season was the defensive coordinator at Florida Atlantic.

Mike Stoops was an Alabama defensive analyst in 2020, and previously was a defensive coordinator at Oklahoma, Arizona and Kansas State. Like the other Stoops, Mike played at Iowa in the early 1980s before he played for 3 teams in the NFL.
