Kentucky will start the season without a backup defensive tackle, coach Mark Stoops announced Monday at his weekly press conference.

The UK coach said Phil Hoskins would miss the first two games because of an “academic issue,” which means Saturday’s opener against Toledo and the Sept. 7 game against Eastern Washington.

Hoskins played in all 13 games in 2018, made 21 tackles with 3.5 tackles for a loss, three sacks and one QB hurry. He made a career-high four tackles with one sack at Texas A&M. He also had two tackles and a sack for a loss of nine yards at Florida.

Calvin Taylor and Abule Abadi-Fitzgerald were listed on the two-deep at defensive tackle of UK’s first depth chart release of the season.

Kentucky kicks off with Toledo at noon ET on Saturday. The Wildcats are a double-digit favorite in the first meeting between the schools as Stoops looks to improve to 6-1 at Kentucky in season openers.
