Ramon Jefferson, who was a redshirt junior last season at Sam Houston, and rushed for 1,202 yards, has committed to play in the SEC.

Jefferson announced a commitment to play at Kentucky.

Jefferson has looked for a new program for a while. He was considered the second-highest ranked player available in the 247Sports Transfer Rankings, initially committed to Colorado in the winter after he entered the transfer portal in January. But about a month ago, he decommitted from the Buffaloes on May 20. Other teams interested in his services were Tennessee and Eastern Michigan.

Changing schools is nothing new for Jefferson, either. Jefferson started his career at Maine, where he rushed for 1,000-yards in 2018 as a redshirt freshman. Jefferson then moved on to Garden City Community College before he landed at Sam Houston for the 2020 season.

After his visit to Kentucky earlier this month, he shared his thoughts on the program.

“It was nice, I really enjoyed it,” Jefferson told 247Sports. “I really like the offensive scheme, I feel it’ll fit my play style. … The staff and players I spoke with were really down to earth and open, great conference (and Kentucky) has been successful past (few) years.”
