Kentucky apparently has some worry about John Calipari’s contact with UCLA regarding its head-coaching vacancy. So, it has upped the ante. (It’s worth noting that UCLA asked Kentucky permission to speak with Calipari about the position).

According to multiple reports (including the first from The Athletic’s Seth Davis behind a paywall) UK has offered Calipari a lifetime deal that gives him an extension and adds an ambassador role after his retirement from coaching.

UCLA has been pursuing Calipari (and others) after it fired head coach Steve Alford in December. The Bruins reportedly offered Calipari a six-year, $48 million deal. Calipari is already the highest paid coach in college basketball making $9.2 million in total compensation this season.

In a hilarious note in ESPN’s report, UCLA is having trouble with its coaching search because of its lack of charter flights. The school has always flown commercial until this season when it began to mix in some charter flights.

Kentucky’s season ended Sunday following the 77-71 loss to Auburn. He released a message to the BBN earlier Monday.
