Rick Pitino is getting dragged on social media over what he called his 'biggest regret'
Since the coronavirus outbreak has everyone’s attention, Iona decided it’s a good time to bring Rick Pitino back to college basketball. The former Kentucky and Louisville head coach has been hired to be the new head coach at MAAC program Iona.
Unsurprisingly, it didn’t take Pitino long to invite a new round of criticism. On Saturday, he said that the “biggest regret” of his coaching career, which has included multiple major scandals, is leaving Providence.
“My biggest regret in coaching was leaving Providence College,” Pitino reportedly said. “They were two magical years in my life. It was a small Catholic school with a small gym I loved so much. I’m going back to a similar situation. I know I’ll love it equally the same.”
The quote was predictably ridiculed on social media:

The fact that THIS is his biggest regret tells you all you need to know about Rick Pitino. https://t.co/q7iXajTdaO

Aaron Torres of FOX Sports Radio went beyond just using the low-hanging fruit for likes and retweets and pointed out that Pitino’s “biggest regret” has changed:
It’s funny, a year ago, Pitino told me – literally on the podcast- that his biggest regret was hiring Andre McGee. Before that, he said his biggest regret was leaving Kentucky.
Amazing how much this guy’s story changes when the situation does.

Credit one thing to Pitino, he has a knack for making headlines.
